Jane:             For a long while, I’ve not bought nice shoes and dresses.

Brent:             Same as the year before, I turned the shower all the way
                      to cold and prayed the Act of Contrition, only this time
                      I was pregnant. My midwife was FURIOUS when she found out.
                      She said it could cause a miscarriage and wasn't good for the baby.
                      Fortunately the baby was fine. She's 12 now.
 
Doug:            Some of my biggest ones were sleeping on the floor,
                      giving up shoes (and this was during the time I lived in Colorado
                      so we're talking snow and ice), and last year I gave up my wardrobe
                      so I wore one set of clothes for Lent. 
 
Cara:             Was giving up your wardrobe harder on you,
                      or on the people around you? How did you handle
                      the issue of cleanliness?
 
Doug:             I definitely bathed and changed my underwear.
 
Paul:             And by golly Doug is downright proud of those penances and wants                       the world to know it :o)

Offering general absolution to the faithful without having them personally confess their sins first may still be done in places seeing serious or increasing levels
of coronavirus infections, a Vatican official said. While "individual confession remains the ordinary way of celebrating this sacrament," serious situations
caused by the pandemic can be considered cases of "grave necessity,"
which allow for other solutions.

or face three years in jail. In response, Pope Francis
ordered the publication of a document
affirming the absolute secrecy of everything
said in confession and calling on priests to defend it
at all costs, even their lives. "The priest, in fact,
comes to know of the sins of the penitent not as a man,
but as God, to the point that he simply 'does not know'
what was said in the confessional because he did not listen
as a man, but precisely in the name of God," the Vatican
